Etymology
Romanian borrowed "etichetă" from French "étiquette" in the 19th century, during a period when Romanian absorbed many French words for modern and social life. The French word first meant a small note or ticket attached to something, later coming to mean both a physical tag and the formal rules of court behavior. English borrowed the same French word directly as "etiquette," so the two are close cousins rather than one deriving from the other.
