Etymology

Evacuare is the Romanian action noun built from the verb a evacua, itself borrowed from French évacuer, which goes back to Latin evacuare. The Latin verb combines the prefix e- (out of) with vacuus (empty), so the original sense was simply to empty something out. Romanian later narrowed the everyday meaning toward clearing people from a place of danger.
