Etymology
Particip is the first-person singular present of a participa, a verb Romanian borrowed from French participer in the nineteenth century, when Romanian scholars reshaped the language's vocabulary along Latin and French lines. French participer descends from Latin participare, built from particeps, meaning one who takes a share. That noun in turn joins pars, part, with capere, to take or seize.
