Etymology
Romanian borrowed "pervers" from French "pervers" in the 19th century, during the wave of French-based modernization of Romanian vocabulary. The French word goes back to Latin "perversus", the past participle of "pervertere", meaning to turn completely around or to corrupt. That verb combines "per-" (thoroughly) with "vertere" (to turn).
