Etymology
Foarte comes from Latin fortis, meaning strong. Its neuter adverbial form forte, originally meaning strongly, was reused in spoken Latin as a general intensifier. Romanian inherited this word directly and it settled into its modern role as the everyday word for very. Romanian later also borrowed forță and a forța from French, from the same Latin root, so foarte and forță are doublets that entered the language by different routes and centuries apart.
