Etymology

Forțat is the past participle of the verb a forța, "to force", which Romanian borrowed from French forcer during the nineteenth-century wave of Latin-Romance relexification. French forcer itself descends from Vulgar Latin fortiare, built on fortis, "strong". The suffix -at marks the participle, matching the Latin -atus pattern seen across Romance languages.
