Etymology
Romanian borrowed "color" in the 20th century from English "color", reinforced by French "couleur", as color television, photography, and printing spread. Unlike the native word "culoare", which also descends from Latin "color" but was inherited directly, the borrowed "color" stayed unassimilated: it takes no Romanian endings and sits after the noun it modifies. Romanian often keeps both an old inherited word and a modern re-borrowing of the same root, and this pair is a clear case.
