Etymology
Cunoscut is the past participle of a cunoaște, meaning to know or to get to know. It comes from Latin cognoscere, built from the prefix co- (together, intensive) and the verb gnoscere or noscere (to know). The same Latin root gave French connu, Italian conosciuto, and Spanish conocido.
