Etymology
Romanian "homo" is a clipped borrowing of "homosexual," the term coined in 1868 by Karl-Maria Kertbeny from Greek homós ("same") and Latin sexualis. The clipping entered English slang first and passed into Romanian informal speech through international pop culture and media. It is a false friend of the unrelated Latin word "homo" meaning "man, human being."
