Etymology
Imposibil entered Romanian in the 19th century from French impossible, part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized Romanian vocabulary. The word itself goes back to Latin impossibilis, built from the negative prefix in- and possibilis, able to be done. Possibilis in turn comes from posse, to be able, a fusion of potis (able, powerful) and esse (to be).
