Etymology
Justiție entered Romanian in the 19th century as part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized the language. It comes from French justice, itself descended from Latin iustitia, the abstract noun built on iustus, meaning lawful or fair. The underlying Latin adjective iustus derives from ius, meaning law or right.
