Etymology
Turna comes from Latin tornare, meaning to shape on a lathe or to round off, which itself comes from Greek tornos, a turning tool or lathe. The Romanian verb kept the old meaning of a controlled, turning motion but shifted it to the act of pouring a liquid or casting molten metal into a mold. The technical sense of casting metal survives today in words like turnătorie, foundry.
