Etymology
Condamnare is a deverbal noun built from the verb a condamna, formed with the infinitive-derived suffix -are. A condamna entered Romanian in the modern period, largely through French condamner, itself from Latin condemnare, meaning to condemn or sentence. Latin condemnare combines the prefix con- with damnare, to inflict a loss on someone or find them guilty, which in turn comes from damnum, meaning loss or damage.
