Etymology
Romanian "lent" was borrowed from French "lent" in the nineteenth century, as part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that reshaped Romanian's formal and technical vocabulary. The French word itself descends from Latin "lentus," meaning slow, pliant, or sticky. Romanian already had a native word for slow, "încet," so "lent" entered as a more formal, technical alternative rather than replacing it.
