Etymology
Romanian borrowed "lift" in the late 19th or early 20th century, as elevators were being installed in new urban buildings. The word came through French "lift", itself an earlier borrowing from English "lift". Romanian kept the spelling and sound almost unchanged and simply gave the noun a native neuter plural, "lifturi".
