Etymology
Romanian "magie" was borrowed from French "magie" in the modern era, part of the wave of French and Latin-based vocabulary that reshaped Romanian in the 19th century. French "magie" descends from Latin "magia", which came from Greek "mageia" (μαγεία), itself derived from "magos" (μάγος), a term for a Zoroastrian priest borrowed from Old Persian. The word is not an inherited Latin term in Romanian but a later literary borrowing.
