Etymology

Romanian borrowed "a prezenta" from French "présenter" in the nineteenth century, during the period when Romanian scholars reshaped the language along Romance lines. The French verb goes back to Latin "praesentare", built on "praesens" (being before someone, present), itself from "prae-" (before) plus the present participle of "esse" (to be). The core idea across all these forms is placing something before someone's eyes or attention.
