Romanian borrowed "reprezenta" from French "représenter" during the nineteenth-century wave of Latin-based modernization of the language. That French verb goes back to Latin "repraesentare", built from the prefix "re-" and "praesentare", meaning to place before someone or to show. "Praesentare" itself derives from "praesens", the present participle of "esse", to be, combined with "prae-", meaning before.
