Etymology
Romanian "politic" was borrowed from French "politique", itself from Latin "politicus" and ultimately Ancient Greek "politikós", meaning of or for citizens. That Greek word comes from "pólis", city or city-state. The old adjective sense of prudent or diplomatic, still visible in phrases like "e politic să...", mirrors the same shift seen in English "politic".
