Etymology

Romanian "politică" comes from French "politique", reinforced by Latin "politica" (as in "ars politica", the art of politics). Both trace back to Greek "politikē" (πολιτική), the feminine form of "politikos", meaning "of a citizen, civic", built on "polis", the city-state. The word entered Romanian in the 19th century, during the wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized the language.
