Etymology
Zilnic is a native Romanian formation built from the noun zi, meaning day, and the adjective-forming suffix -nic. The suffix attaches to nouns to create words meaning of or pertaining to that thing, so zi plus -nic yields something close to of-the-day, which settled into the meaning daily. Zi itself continues the Latin word dies, day, inherited directly by Romanian rather than borrowed later.
