Etymology
Manieră came into Romanian from French manière, in the wave of French borrowings that reshaped Romanian vocabulary in the 19th century. French manière itself goes back to Vulgar Latin manuaria, a feminine form tied to Latin manus, meaning hand. The sense shifted over time from a literal handling or handiwork to a general way of doing something.
