Născut is the past participle of a naște, "to be born," which descends from Latin nasci, "to be born." Standard Latin used the irregular participle natus, but popular Latin in the region that became Romania formed a new, regular participle by adding -utus to the verb stem, giving something like nascutus. Romanian kept this regularized form as născut, while other Romance languages generally kept reflexes of natus (French né, Italian nato, Spanish nacido).
