Etymology
Naștere comes from the Romanian verb a naște, to be born or to give birth, which descends from Latin nascere, an active variant of the deponent verb nasci. Romanian regularly turns a verb's long infinitive into an abstract noun by keeping the -re ending, so naștere literally reads as the act named by a naște. The same Latin verb gave French naître and Italian nascere.
