Etymology
Nebunesc is built inside Romanian from nebun ("mad, madman") plus the adjectival suffix -esc, the same ending found in românesc ("Romanian") and bărbătesc ("manly"). This suffix marks "belonging to" or "characteristic of" and is common across Balkan Romance. The deeper origin of nebun itself is disputed among Romanian etymologists, so no further root is claimed here.
