Etymology
Nega comes from Latin negare, meaning to deny or to say no. The Latin verb built on nec, an old negative particle, joined to a root of speaking or affirming, so the compound sense was roughly to say no to something. Romanian kept the verb through the ordinary line of descent from spoken Latin, along with its core legal and everyday sense of denial.
