Etymology
Înjunghiat is the past participle of the verb a înjunghia, to stab. That verb is built from the prefix în- (into) plus the noun junghi (a stab, a sharp jab or stitch of pain) and the verb ending -a. Junghi in turn traces back to Latin jugulum, the throat, the spot a blade aims for in a knife attack. Over time the word widened from a wound in the throat to any stabbing wound or even a sudden stabbing pain.
