Etymology
Nevoie comes from Old Church Slavonic nevolja, a word built from the negative prefix ne- and volja, will. In the source language it meant lack of will, distress, or bondage. Romanian borrowed it centuries ago and the meaning settled on need or necessity, the everyday word for lacking something required.
