Etymology
Duce comes from the Latin verb ducere, meaning to lead or to guide. Romanian kept the core sense of moving something or someone from one place to another, and later extended it to abstract uses like fate or circumstance leading a life in a certain direction. The same Latin root gave English words entering through French and Latin borrowings, not through direct inheritance.
