Etymology
Număra comes from Latin numerare, meaning to count or reckon, which is built on numerus, meaning number. Romanian kept the verb largely intact through the shift from Vulgar Latin, unlike some neighboring languages that replaced it with other roots. The noun număr, meaning number, was reinforced from the same Latin source and the two words still share their stem today.
