Etymology
Observa entered Romanian in the modern era, most likely through French observer, itself from Latin observare. The Latin word combines ob- (toward, over) with servare (to watch, to keep). Romanian absorbed many such words during the 18th and 19th centuries as it rebuilt its vocabulary along Western Romance lines.
