Etymology
Romanian borrowed the noun "program" from French "programme" during the nineteenth-century modernization of its vocabulary. The verb "a programa" was then formed by adding the native first-conjugation infinitive ending "-a" to that borrowed stem, echoing French "programmer". Both ultimately trace back to Greek "programma", a public notice posted beforehand, from "pro-" (before) and "gramma" (a thing written).
