Etymology
Răsărit is the past participle of the verb a răsări, used as a noun. Romanian dictionaries trace a răsări to Latin resalire, built from the prefix re- (again, back) and salire (to jump, to spring up). The sense shifted from a literal springing motion to describe the sun springing up over the horizon and plants springing up from the soil.
