Etymology

Repar is the first-person singular present of a repara, borrowed into Romanian from French réparer during the language's modernization in the 18th and 19th centuries, when many Latinate technical and civic terms replaced older Slavic ones. French réparer itself descends from Latin reparare, built from the prefix re- (again) and parare (to prepare, make ready). The same Latin root gives Romanian its native verb a pregăti and a whole family of Romance words for fixing and preparing things.
