Etymology
Grecie is an old and regional Romanian name for Greece, built on the root "grec-" (Greek) with the native toponymic suffix "-ie", the same suffix seen in other archaic Romanian country names such as "Ungurie" for Hungary. The root itself goes back to Latin "Graecia", which in turn comes from Greek "Γραικία" (Graikía). Standard modern Romanian settled on "Grecia", closer to the Latin and Greek source, and "Grecie" survives mainly in old chronicles and regional speech.
