Etymology
Repetat is the past participle of a repeta, which Romanian took from French répéter and Latin repetere during the nineteenth-century push to re-Latinize its vocabulary. Repetere itself joins re- (again) with petere (to seek, to aim at). The same Latin root petere also underlies English words like petition and compete.
