Etymology
Romanian "rod" is a borrowing from Slavic, related to Old Church Slavonic "rodъ", which covered both "birth, kin" and "harvest, yield". Romanian narrowed the sense mostly to fruit, crop, or the tangible result of effort. It sits alongside many other Slavic loans that entered Romanian through centuries of contact with South Slavic speakers.
