Etymology
Cunoaște comes from Latin cognoscere, built from the prefix co- and the verb gnoscere, meaning to come to know. Romanian kept the inchoative -sc- infix that Latin used to mark a process of learning or coming to know something, not just a static state. The same Latin root spread across the Romance languages, each softening the consonant cluster differently.
