Etymology
Saturat is a learned borrowing from French saturé and Latin saturatus, the past participle of saturare, meaning to fill or satiate. That verb comes from the adjective satur, full, which is related to Latin satis, enough. Romanian took the word into its scientific and technical vocabulary in the 19th century, alongside the inherited popular verb a se sătura and its participle săturat, which developed by ordinary sound change from the same Latin root and covers the everyday sense of eating one's fill.
