Etymology
Fizică entered Romanian from French physique, which traces to Latin physica and ultimately Greek physike, the feminine form of physikos, meaning natural or of nature. That Greek word comes from physis, nature, rooted in the verb phyein, to bring forth or grow. Romanian took the word during its nineteenth-century modernization, when many science terms arrived via French.
