Etymology
Scârbos is built from the noun scârbă plus the adjective suffix -os. Scârbă itself comes from a Slavic word for grief or affliction, related to Old Church Slavonic skrŭbĭ. In Romanian the meaning shifted from sorrow to disgust, and scârbos came to describe whatever provokes that reaction.
