Etymology
Noiembrie descends from Latin november, itself built on novem, meaning nine, since November was the ninth month in the old Roman calendar that began in March. Romanian's modern month names, including noiembrie, were reintroduced in the 19th century on the model of French and Italian, replacing older Slavic-influenced folk names. The word therefore reached Romanian both through direct Latin inheritance and through later Romance borrowing.
