Etymology
Septembrie comes from Latin September, an adjective built on septem, meaning seven. In the old Roman calendar, which began in March, this was the seventh month, and the name stuck even after January and February were added to the start of the year. Romanian inherited the word through Latin, the same source that gave the term to most other Romance languages.
