Etymology
Romanian borrowed "van" directly from English in recent decades, as car types and marketing terms spread through global trade and media. English "van" is itself a short form of "caravan", which passed through French from Persian "kārwān". Romanian took only the modern clipped sense, the vehicle, not the older caravan meaning. It behaves like other recent English loans in Romanian, taking a neuter gender and the productive -uri plural.
