Etymology
Vouă descends from Latin vobis, the dative and ablative plural of the second-person pronoun. Sound changes in spoken Latin wore down the final syllable and shifted the stressed vowel, producing Old Romanian vouă. It survives today as the strong, stressed dative form of voi (you, plural), used for emphasis or contrast next to the unstressed clitic vă.
