Etymology
أَحْرَق is the Form IV, causative verb built on the triliteral Semitic root ح-ر-ق (ḥ-r-q), whose core sense is burning or scorching. The base Form I verb حَرَقَ already carries a burning sense, and the added أ- prefix makes the action causative: to make something burn. This pattern of building causative verbs by prefixing a plain root is a regular feature of Arabic's derived verb system.
