Etymology
أَرْوَع is the elative form of رائع (rāʾiʿ, "wonderful, splendid"), built on the pattern أفعل used in Arabic to express comparison and superlative degree. Both words trace to the root ر و ع, which centers on the idea of striking someone with awe or fright. Over time the sense of the root split: one branch kept the meaning of fear or shock, and another softened into being struck with admiration, which gave rise to رائع and its elative أروع.
