Etymology
مذاق comes from the Semitic root ذ-و-ق (dh-w-q), which carries the sense of tasting or experiencing something directly. The verb ذاق (dhāqa) means "he tasted," and adding the prefix م turns the root into a noun naming the result: the taste or flavor itself. This is a normal pattern in Arabic, where the same three-letter root produces a verb, an abstract noun for the faculty of taste (ذوق), and a concrete noun for a particular flavor (مذاق).
