Etymology
أسمى comes from the Arabic root س-م-و (s-m-w), which carries the sense of height and elevation. It is the elative form, built on the أفعل pattern, of the verb سما, meaning to rise or to be lofty, so أسمى literally means more or most elevated. The same root gives Arabic سماء (sky) and سُموّ (loftiness, also used as the title Highness). As a Semitic root, it has no Indo-European origin.
