Etymology
The root ط و ق carries the core idea of encircling, as in طوق, a ring or collar. Form IV أطاق extends this concrete image to an abstract one: having enough capacity to encompass a task or a burden, so the verb came to mean having the power or patience to bear something. The same root gives طاقة, the everyday word for energy or capacity, which shares this notion of an encompassing reserve of strength.
